The internet did come a long way from my very first ‘look at my cute graphic’ site to the more technical hotshot thingies i am getting involved developing with these days.

Although i had my doubts on using web standards when developing websites, i too became a preacher of the use of great ‘newer’ standards like xhtml, css and the likes. Although there are many more standards to be aware of, these two should be the ones you should get involved in if you have to choose.

When looking back at an somewhat older article written at design by fire i thought it might be interesting for anyone to read someone elses opinion about these ‘make webdevelopers life easier’ techniques.

Generally speaking, standards are a means to apply pressure on corporations to behave in a manner that is beneficial to everyone, not just the shareholders of the corporation.

I’ll give my little example to convince people that NOT using standars is and even more will be in the future….a mistake.

When developers deny the public’s need for these kind of products, they pass by by the fact that government in certain countries is pushing this need to your customers by creating laws which should make certain people follow some sort of guidelines.

Believe me that clients will want the standard thingie when they know there will be huge consequences when not thinking over the implementations of web-like products.
